As my mother was recently operated (and is in her 80s), she was suggested extra protein. We got her chocolate protinex (she was familiar with the product so she wanted that). I felt it had too much sugar, decided to get something which didn't have added sugar, and so ordered this. It is difficult to make out if/when/how much protein powders work, so can't tell you how either of are compared to each other. The difference that one can make out is in terms of taste—the vanilla in Ensure just tastes really bad, like an overdose of it, and like it was added to hide some other taste—which makes it taste, smell and feel like you're having some medicinal product forcing you to gulp it down.

As per several health experts maltodextrin is very high on GI scale and it's a cheap starch sourced mainly from corn. It's unfortunate that Abbott is using this cheap filler material for this thing. They should prove how it is low GI when bulk of ensure powder is just maltodextrin. I like it's taste and the fact that it has several vitamins and minerals but this maltodextrin stuff is really nasty. Please do your own due diligence about ingredients of healthy products before buying them.
