Well, this is the first time I decided to use a serum. It's been 2 months now. 1. It dries out any new occasional breakout quickly. No serum promises to completely prevent breakouts. Breakouts depend on other skincare factors as well, even internal. 2. It defines reduces the shine on your face. But if you use just the serum and don't follow it up with a good non comedogenic moisturizer, your skin will compensate the dryness caused by serum by producing more oil and you'll blame the serum unnecessarily. So use a light weight moisturizer 10 minutes after evenly applying the serum. 3. It works for the cause: active acne. Don't expect it to fade acne marks (if any). You can use a tomato, turmeric and lemon paste once a week to exfoliate your skin and fade acne marks over time. 4. Don't skip moisturizer. I know I'm repeating this but please don't skip moisturizer because you're using a 2% conc. Of salicylic acid serum which is bound to dry out your skin. Every skin type is different. I hope it helps.
